Pereira & O’Dell tapped longtime collaborators, MPC LA andRSA’s Oscar award-winning director Robert Stromberg, to create the fourth installment of the successful Intel ‘Inside Films’ series. An emotional tale of self-discovery, “What Lives Inside” is set in a richly surreal world inhabited by fantastical creatures – all crafted entirely in CG by MPC. The series is comprised of four 10-minute short films, brought to life over an ambitious four and a half months with MPC’s CG and 2D artists contributing over 200 stunning VFX shots.
MPC set about translating Robert’s incredible vision into CG creatures that feel organic and alive, along with outlandish yet tangible environments, from scratch. Extensive R&D was undertaken to inject life, emotion, and natural movements into each character, including texturing of scales, rigging of skeletal structures, and animation of interaction, movements and voice dialogue.
Starring Oscar-winner J.K. Simmons, Colin Hanks and Catherin O’Hara, the film offers a social component that gives viewers a chance to see their work in the Hollywood piece. A fifth, and very pivotal creature, selected by Robert and the agency from over 5,500 user-generated character submissions, will be fully rendered and animated by MPC to join the onscreen cast of unique characters. An additional 144 user-generated sketches will be composited into the elements of the magical world.
